What is romance text?

What is it and why is it important for your patterns?

WHAT IS IT

Romance text is a few sentences that help bring life and interest to your patterns. It adds a personal touch and creates a connection to the knitter and the pattern. Romance text should tell the reader how they should feel when wearing or using the finished item. It encourages them to look closer and take more time viewing the details.

I don't think it necessarily needs to be in the pattern itself, but it should at least be on the pattern's selling page in the description. It should be the first thing knitters read about your pattern, to gain their interest and draw out emotion.

GET A TECH EDITOR TO HELP

Now I admit I am no writer, so maybe my romance text skills are lacking. If you need help writing romance text, there are tech editors that can help you! Or, you can try just writing from the heart and letting it come naturally. You can talk about the inspiration behind the piece, why you decided to design it and how it makes you feel. This is an excellent starting place if you aren't sure where to start.

DONT BE BORING

What romance text should not be, is just describing the pattern and it's specific details and elements. This isn't the place to tell the reader that it uses so-and-so stitch pattern in a top-down construction. This doesn't inspire or try to create a connection with the reader.

Give writing romance text a try for your patterns, see if it helps drive in more sales or get more people interested and wanting your pattern.
